◆ MOU signed to ensure timely supply of power equipment for GS E&C’s AI data center projects and jointly explore next-generation power solutions◆ Companies to exchange technologies related to modular data centers and direct current (DC) power distribution and jointly address the design and technical requirements of global customers GS E&C is strengthening its competitiveness in the AI data center business through a strategic partnership with LS ELECTRIC. GS E&C announced that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with LS ELECTRIC on August 10 at LS Yongsan Tower in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, to jointly respond to changes in the AIDC (AI Data Center) business environment. The signing ceremony was attended by GS E&C CEO Huh Yoon-hong, LS ELECTRIC Chairman Koo Ja-kyun, LS ELECTRIC CEO Chae Dae-seok, and other executives and officials from both companies. Under the MOU, the two companies agreed to jointly respond to the rapidly evolving AI data center market and technology landscape and to cooperate in ensuring the stable and seamless execution of related projects. In particular, the companies will establish a cooperative framework to ensure the timely supply of key power equipment from LS ELECTRIC for AI data center projects that GS E&C is currently pursuing or planning. This is expected to further enhance the stability and project execution capabilities of GS E&C’s AI data center business, which is emerging as a key future growth driver. AI data centers operate large numbers of high-performance computing systems, including GPUs, and therefore require significantly higher power density and cooling performance than conventional cloud data centers. As a result, securing large-capacity grid connections and building reliable substation and power distribution systems are considered critical elements of AI data center projects. The two companies will also jointly explore next-generation power solutions in response to the technological shift from cloud data centers to AI data centers. Key areas of cooperation include ▲ holding technical exchange sessions on modular data centers and power solutions based on direct current (DC) distribution; ▲ jointly addressing the design and technical requirements of major customers, including global Big Tech companies; and ▲ cooperating on the supply of power equipment required for AI data center projects. A GS E&C official said, “AI data centers require higher levels of power reliability and more efficient power management capabilities than conventional data centers, making the competitiveness of power infrastructure a critical factor in the success of these projects.” “Through this MOU, we will continue to strengthen our competitiveness in the AI data center business by collaborating not only on the supply of power equipment, but also on next-generation power solutions and the technical requirements of global customers,” the official added.
