◆ Around 90 teams and 700 employees participated, with 12 projects advancing to the finals following two months of AI training and coaching
◆ AI solutions developed for construction-specific tasks including drawing review and project scheduling across building, infrastructure and plant businesses
◆ AI use expanding from individual tasks to teams, business divisions and companywide applications, with winning solutions to be further developed for deployment in actual operations

GS E&C is moving beyond embedding AI capabilities across its workforce and is now expanding its efforts to the practical application of employee-developed AI solutions in day-to-day operations.

GS E&C announced on September 21 that it selected 12 projects with strong potential for practical application through “AX Recipe,” its in-house AI application competition launched in June, and held the final round on September 18. During the finals, the 12 teams demonstrated the solutions they had developed, with three teams ultimately selected as winners based on votes from executives and employees, including CEO Huh Yoon-hong.

This year’s Grand Prize was awarded to an AI-powered solution designed to streamline the review of steel shop drawings for plant projects. The solution, developed through AI-assisted vibe coding, automates a process that previously required engineers to manually cross-check thousands of steel members. It reduced review time by more than 80% while also improving accuracy, drawing strong interest from participants. One representative from the Grand Prize-winning team will also be given the opportunity to attend CES 2027, the world’s largest technology and consumer electronics exhibition.

First launched last year, AX Recipe is GS E&C’s in-house AI competition designed to encourage employees to use AI to solve workplace challenges and discover new ways of working. This year, the program evolved from an individual-centered approach to team-based participation by business units. As a result, participants moved beyond simply automating repetitive tasks and proposed a wide range of AI solutions that can be directly applied to actual construction operations.

Around 90 teams applied to participate in this year’s AX Recipe. During July and August, approximately 700 employees took part in AI training sessions and received project-specific coaching. Following a comprehensive evaluation of factors including project completeness and potential for practical application, 12 teams were selected as finalists. The winning projects will be further reviewed for deployment in actual operations as well as potential expansion across business divisions and throughout the company.

A number of construction-specific AI solutions reflecting the characteristics of GS E&C’s building, infrastructure and plant businesses were identified through the competition. These include a solution linked to GS E&C’s defect prevention platform that reviews potential issues during the design and construction stages and recommends improved construction methods; a solution for tracking changes to project contracts; and a solution that cross-checks 3D design models against project specifications. These projects demonstrate strong potential for immediate deployment and broader application across the company.

A GS E&C official said, “Through this year’s AX Recipe, we confirmed that our employees have moved beyond simply learning how to use AI and are now capable of applying it directly to their work and producing tangible results.”

“We will continue to strengthen the framework connecting AI education, hands-on training and practical workplace application, while expanding data- and AI-driven models specifically tailored to the construction industry,” the official added.
